Steph created the concept of Yoga for Skaters in 2019 to share the benefits yoga can have on their skateboarding. She has developed a strong relationship with Vans and is currently holding space at their indoor skate park every Monday. The programming is completely free to the public and Vans provides mats for everyone. Steph hosts an open skate sesh from 4-5pm and a 45 min. yoga class catered to the needs of the skaters present. The format is open level, for all ages and identities. The goal is to give skaters access to self care so they can walk away with tools from yoga and meditation that can help their physical and mental well being.
Steph designed the logo using hand-drawn lettering. She utilized drastically different typographic styles for "Yoga" and "Skaters" to showcase their contrasting perceptions in society. The soft curves in 'yoga' represent the calmness associated with the practice while the sharp edges in 'skaters' emphasizes its intensity and danger. The flow from one word to the other strikes a balance that is achieved when you add "for" in neutral text. The overall affect creates harmony between the two which evokes the goal behind the project.
The flyers Steph creates to promote her classes showcase the community through the lens of Aldous Heaven's photography. They always feature skating and yoga photos that highlight the action of the events. She uses typographic hierarchy to effectively communicate the event details. She uses intentional placement of logos to create a consistent framework for representing this series.
Reels are another integral promotion tool Steph utilizes to engage the community. The videos effectively capture the audience's attention with quick cuts, impressive skating and good energy. They entice the viewer to want to join in and sign up for the next one. Steph is dedicated to documenting the community being built around wellness in skateboarding.
